Piara Waters was mostly farmland and market gardens until the 2010s. Much of the estate was built up with imported sand to lift lots above the winter water table.

That fill is usually clean, coarse and low in organic matter. It drains quickly and repels water when dry, so we work in soil improver and a wetting agent before spraying.

What we recommend for Piara Waters yards

• A hard-wearing couch blend for compact family yards
• Front and back done together
• Short, frequent watering for the first two weeks, then deeper soaks

Water close to the surface

The groundwater under much of Piara Waters sits close to the surface in winter, which is part of why the estates were built up with fill. A lawn on fill does best with a deeper, slower watering habit once it's established, so roots reach down into the moisture rather than staying near the top.
