Hydroseeding FAQs
Hydroseeding FAQs with straight answers about cost, process, timing and aftercare.
Cost
How much does hydroseeding cost in Perth?
Usually $2–$4 per m², or about $240–$480 for a 120m² backyard. Our hydroseeding cost guide covers what changes the price, with examples and a calculator.
Is hydroseeding cheaper than roll-on lawn?
Yes. Roll-on lawn in Perth is usually about $16–$25 per m² supplied and laid. See roll-on lawn in Perth.
Do you charge for quotes?
No. Quotes and site checks are free, and quotes are fixed for 30 days.
Is there a minimum job size?
No. Small yards are priced per square metre like any other job.
Do you price match?
Yes, on a written quote for the same scope of work, dated within the last 30 days and shown to us before you book. See our terms.
Process
What prep does my yard need?
Bare, level soil that's free of weeds and rubble, with a wetting agent worked into water-repellent sand. If your yard isn't there yet, we can take care of the prep for you.
How long does spraying take?
Most home lawns are sprayed in a few hours.
Do I need to be home?
Not for the spray – just leave side access open.
What's in the mix?
Seed, mulch, fertiliser, a natural tackifier and a temporary green dye.
Timing & weather
What time of year is best?
Spring and early autumn are ideal in Perth, when the soil is warm and the heat is manageable. We can spray at other times with the right mulch and blend, as long as the lawn gets enough water while it establishes.
Will it wash away in rain?
The mulch and a natural tackifier bind the seed to the soil, so normal rain helps rather than hurts. A very heavy storm in the first couple of weeks can wash patches on slopes, which is why we time the spray around the weather where we can.
Can you hydroseed in winter?
Yes, but warm-season grass grows slowly in cold soil, so spring or early autumn gives a better result. Hydromulch can hold bare ground until then.
What about a heatwave after spraying?
Water a little more often, so the mulch stays damp through the hottest part of the day.
Aftercare
How much watering does it need?
Light, frequent watering for the first few weeks, usually a few short sessions a day. Water Corporation's new-lawn exemption lets you water outside your rostered days while it establishes.
How long until I can walk on it?
You'll see green in about 7–10 days. Light foot traffic is fine after roughly 4 weeks, and most lawns are ready for their first mow at around 6 weeks.
Can I water outside my rostered days?
Yes, with Water Corporation's new-lawn exemption, which covers seed. It starts on spray day and lasts up to 42 days from October to March, or 35 days from April to September.
When do I first mow?
Usually around 6 weeks, on a high setting.
When should I fertilise?
At about 8 weeks, with a general lawn fertiliser.
Hydroseed vs turf
Is hydroseeding as good as turf?
Once it's established, yes – and often better. Because the grass grows from seed in your own soil, the roots go deeper and there are no seams. The trade-off is time: turf looks finished on day one.
Which lasts longer?
Both last for years with good care; seeded lawns often have deeper roots.
Which is better for slopes?
Hydroseeding. It sprays evenly and won't slip like rolls can.
