Overview

What does lawn prep involve?

We remove weeds and rubble, loosen compacted ground, work in soil improver and a wetting agent where the sand needs it, and level everything so water spreads evenly.

  • Weed and rubble removal
  • Soil improver and wetting agent
  • Levelled for even watering
Dry, compacted soil that needs preparation
Is it right for you?

Why it matters

Seed can only be as good as the soil it lands on. On Perth sand, most patchy lawns trace back to water running off dry, water-repellent patches, so we don't skip it.

  • Better germination
  • Water soaks in, not off
  • A lawn that lasts

FAQ

Site Preparation questions

Quick answers to what people ask most.

Do I need topsoil before hydroseeding?

Not usually. Most Perth sand needs soil improver and a wetting agent more than a layer of topsoil. We check on the site visit, and anything needed is itemised in your quote.

Can you remove an old lawn?

Yes. We spray off the old grass and weeds, let them die back, then cultivate and level the soil before seeding.

What about builder's rubble?

Rubble needs to come out before seeding, because grass won't root through it. We can clear it as part of the prep, listed separately in your quote.

Do you handle weed spraying?

Yes. Weeds are sprayed and left to die off before seeding, so they don't compete with the new lawn.

What is a wetting agent for?

Perth sand often repels water once it dries, so water beads and runs off. A wetting agent helps water soak in evenly, which a new lawn needs.

How long between prep and spraying?

If weeds have been sprayed, usually a week or two so they can die back. Bare, weed-free soil can be sprayed straight after prep.
